Biography: My interest in science began in Elementary school the first time I looked through a microscope. In High school, my interest in biology over the other sciences was piqued by my junior year biology teacher and some summer work I did studying the efficacy of medicinal plants. As an undergraduate, I majored in Molecular Biology, and spent my summers purifying proteins and sequencing DNA in a lab. During this time, I learned the importance of physics and chemistry to biology, and how dependent biology is on the more basic sciences. After several years of doing molecular genetics as a technician, I entered the Ph.D. program at Washington University to further my education and expertise in scientific research. Now that I have my Doctorate, I can spend more time answering question and moderating for the 'Network.
