Found you on the web and thought you might be able to help.
I have a thermometer.
It has a blue line that has gone to full scale and will not come down.
I have tried to place in freezer for 2 hours.
It will not come off full scale.
I have placed in oven at 150 and still at full scale.
The bulb has fluid and I can see no cracks in the glass.
I think the mercury string has separated between the bulb and the scale part of
the thermometer.
Do you know of a way for me to fix the thermometer with any method I have not
tried?
I know mercury has not become a solid.
I can see liquid in the bulb part of the thermometer.
I think the string of mercury is broken right at the bulb and the mercury in
the bulb won't pick up the mercury in the stem part of the unit due to air
bubble.
Do you think placing a vibrator on the thermometer at the bulb and stem
junction will do the trick?
I will try about anything at this point.
The thermometer is part of an old barometer and can't be replaced.
