Bromothymol blue is an indicator used in acid base reactions/titrations. It 
is a dilute solution that is put into a basic  solution.  It will change 
colors when the pH nears neutral.  It's sort of like a dye that changes 
color when the chemical reaction reaches the point when the two solutions ( 
the acid and the base) are equal.  The shortened name is BTB.
 
As a note there are some natural indicators that are similar.  Red cabbage 
can be put in a blender with water.  Make some juice, and add lemon juice 
and see what happens.  Red grapes can be used as well.  If you can use red 
grapes and lemon juice, try drinking your mixture and see what it taste 
like.  You may need to add a little sugar, but the taste and look will be 
familiar.
