Hi. I'm kind of confused about the chemical structure and chemical formula of the substance ninhydrin. The formula is C9H6O4, however its chemical structure looks like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/67/Ninhydrin.png Where is the carbon? And where are the rest of the oxygens and hydrogens? I know this may be a stupid question, but I'm really confused. I'm doing an assignment that involves the reaction of ninhydrin and amino acids and it would help if I actually understood how the chemical structure worked... Thanks heaps.
