The local high school coaches have instructed athletes to not drink any carbonated soft drinks because the carbonation in the drink will impare their ability to perform as athletes. I don't know the basis for this claim, but I would understand that they asume what they are saying is that the CO2 in the drink would overload the body and impair O2 utilization. I question this claim. Is there any evidence either way that drinking softdrinks would cut an athletes performance. Thanks for your help.
